Building Energy Interns
Humboldt Energy Independence Fund (HEIF), Plant Operations, HSU
(Proposal by Renewable Energy Students Union -RESU)
Objectives
Compile, organize, analyze, and publish building specific energy consumption data at HSU.
Outreach, awareness and educating the campus and community about general building energy consumption patterns as well the impact of HEIF-funded projects.
Outputs
Develop a database for energy consumption across campus for use by students, staff, faculty and Plant operations/Building Engineers and coordinators.
Develop a website to display graphical and tabular energy data by buildings on monthly or annual basis, associated costs and carbon emissions.
Outreach activities in the campus community such as producing flyers, conducting presentations and competitions amongst buildings.
Activities
1. Collect and review of existing energy data and their compilation method.
2. Design and create a standard energy database.
3. Preparation of an Inventory of building; Compile building data like Area, built year, HVAC system (type, capacity, specifications and maintenance details), meters, lighting system, usage etc.
4. Host a website for HSU energy consumption with dynamic upgrades and flexibilities.
5. Learn about the Operation and Management system of buildings on campus and utilization of the Energy Management System (EMS). Look into possibility of further improvements and capacity building requirements.
6. Research and learn about similar works being done by other people on campus and also in other universities. Collaborate and coordinate for a common goal.
7. Create awareness, collect feedback and suggestions on energy consumption and efficiency measures.
8. Conduct competitions and presentations to the campus community.
